The NEC Proadlizer, Super Low ESR SP-Cap capacitors, and high frequency 3MHz shielded inductors provide clean and precise voltage control, and the onboard voltage probe points lets you monitor them with ease. Of course, full support for the EVGA EVBot means that you can overclock and monitor your card on the fly, and a special OC BIOS enables extreme overclocking mode. As the title of this review may suggest, I use nVidia cards for their CUDA cores and not for gaming (their intended purpose). Keep that in mind as I won't be talking much about how it performs with games.At the moment CUDA is the best way to use Blender 3Ds Cycles render engine. As such I needed an nVidia card with a lot of CUDA cores and as much RAM as possible. This card delivers on both counts. I had just prior purchased an MSI GTX 680 FROZR III which, on paper at least, should be an outrageously powerful render card. Turns out that nVidia messed up the CUDA cores on the 600 series :( My main production machine still uses an EVGA GTX 570HD with 2.5GB RAM and a liquid cooler for the extreme heat that it generates.Let it be known that I would have gone for an MIS GTX 580 FROZR if there was one with 3GB available since the cooler on those is just sooo good (if there actually is one then please let me know so that I can get it too). This card is going into a dedicated render station that I have built.First, the good. This thing is fast. 25% faster, in fact, than my 570 at rendering. Also at least 10% faster than the GTX 680 (once I got it to work). The full 3GB of RAM is great for larger scenes. The larger fan and heatsink on this thing actually work a lot better than I thought they would. I also like that it comes with both a DVI to VGA as well as DVI to HDMI adapter (which is what I use).Now, the not so good. This thing needs 2x 8 pin pci plugs plus one 6 pin pci plug. Also make sure you have a fairly strong power supply... this will use it. The thing is power hungry already and, apparently is made for over volting as well - something that I am not going to do. Note that although the large fan and heatsink are better than expected, the card still gets pretty hot. Over a 5 hour test render (GPU running at a constant 99%) it managed to stay steady at 80-82C which is hot but not dangerously so. I may underclock it a little if I get worried but for now I am okay with this.The original Bioshock is still my most demanding PC game and that runs extremely smoothly with everything maxed out (as you would expect). Take that for what it is worth. I am sure some of the other reviewers will shed more light on the cards gaming prowess. From what I have heard the only reason to really get one of these if you are a gamer is the extended overclockability but I think that the better cooling should help gamers as well since the 500 series are all pretty hot. That said, if you are a gamer then it is a much better deal to just get on the 600 series. Especially the 670 which costs less than this but works about as well as pair of these in SLI - all while using less power.Overall, great for content creation on programs like Blender 3D and Adobe Premiere Pro (CS5 and up). Just make sure you have good airflow in your case or liquid cooling.
