Upgraded from Radeon 5870 to 7870 and 3DMark 2011 scores are as follows:- AMD Radeon 5870 scored 4681 marks.- MSI Radeon 7870 scored 6713 marks. In both cases neither cards were not overclocked manually and system is Intel Core I2500k at 4.2ghz with 4GB of RAM. Motherboard P67A-GD55.Been using MSI products for many years without a single DOA or missing parts. As far as the MSI Radeon 7870 design - cooling at least - differs from the AMD reference design. This design change by MSI however provides the card with increased clock rates of 1050 MHz GPU and 1200 MHz memory. Operating temperatures are also indicated to below the reference design - unfortunately I have no simple way to verify this. Several online reviews cover the thermals in more detail.Installation was relatively simple and I was pleased to see the 7870 was about an inch shorter in length to the 5870 I had removed. Caution would be to make sure the two large cooler fans are not obstructed by cabling. I did have to move the Soundblaster Xfi PC-E to a different slot (on top of the 7870 instead of underneath) since the Soundblaster obstructed one of the fans completely.Driver install was not as simple - Running Windows 7 x64 ultimate and I removed the ATI/AMD drivers before installing the new 7870 - obviously with 5870 still in place. Installing the new 7870 and powering on I was not able to install the latest AMD/ATI drivers - 12.2. Machine would reboot post install but device manager still reflected "Generic Display Driver". Ultimately I used the install CD/DVD that shipped with the 7870 and then was able to install the card. I promptly reinstalled the latest 12.2 from AMD's site directly with no issues. Usually I would recommend if time permits to reformat/reinstall the OS between ANY new hardware. I should have heeded my own advice. Currently using AMD 12.3 reference drivers with no issues. As far as "real word" usage I am now able to run BF3 with maximum settings at 1920x1200 with no notable lag. With the 5870 there was notable lag with all options enabled to the "MAX".

I have to give it 5 stars because it delivers the promised performance, at remarkably stable and low temperatures (the stock cooler is excellent and a great reason to choose a reference design, it is extremely effective and very quiet for its performance - even under maximum load, temperatures are lower than any top-of-the-line nVidia card for generations). There are no multi-GPU rendering issues, as can affect multi-card configurations or multi-GPU on one card configurations. I don't aim that specifically at ATI, as nVidia has their fair share of driver difficulties as well, but in general a single GPU card is a safer bet for cutting edge games as any scaled multi-GPU setup will require a compatibility profile update in order to work correctly. The card overclocks beautifully. I feel like I haven't even touched its maximum performance, yet at 1080p, there are no games that exceed my visual desires that would justify even higher settings. A 10% overclock over reference GTX 580 settings comes with a commensurate performance increase; it's my feeling, though I don't have any hard evidence, that these EVGA models are binned for superior performance, so the price premium isn't just for the stock moderate overclock, but for what I perceive as a higher likelihood of taking it further. As mentioned, the temperatures are well-controlled. Absolutely no complaints there. The card is much quieter than the nVidia GTX 280 that it replaced, as well. The problem comes in with the question of value. I don't want to go into a long tear about it, but you're just straight-up better off buying a EVGA GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card with Lifetime Warranty 012-P3-1570-AR if you want almost the same level of performance for a substantial savings. In SLI, you could run three GTX 570s in SLI for the price of two GTX 580s. In some games, at modern resolutions, you'll pay over $50 per additional FPS going from the GTX 570 to the GTX 580. Do you really, really think $50 per frame for an additional 3 FPS in The Witcher 2 is worth the money? I don't. And ATI has price to performance on lockdown with their 6950 2GB reference models that can be safely flashed to 6970 specification. So, is this an awesome card? Absolutely. It's the best single GPU card on the planet at the moment. That'll change, it always does. Next generation's less pricey option will perform identically to this. Look at the GTX 570 vs the GTX 480 - virtually identical performance. And the GTX 560Ti is no slouch, lagging only a few real-world frames per second behind its more costly brethren to hold the nVidia price:performance sweet spot. Take these facts into consideration before purchasing. You're paying - I paid! - an extraordinary premium to have "the best." The theoretical maximum improvement over the previous generation's unrealized Fermi - the GTX 480 - is 17%. In the real world, you get between 6% and 12%.There's just no way around admitting that this is far past the point of diminishing returns. It excels, but at an extraordinary price. If I had the decision to make over again, I would likely have gone with the GTX 570, as it offers very close performance at a substantial discount. Smart money might be on the ATI 6950 that magically turns into a 6970 with no added expenditure, but I don't like Xfire (any more than I like SLI). Single GPU for me. This is the king... but much lighter is the wallet that buys the crown.

I've been working on an 8 core 2008 Mac Pro model mainly with After Effects. I had a 3min. long project that took 1 hour to render, after using the Quadro 4000 this time came down to 20 minutes when using Open GL. It feels like a new computer.

I have a media computer in my living room that I have connected to my 73" DLP.Great for surfing the Net and streaming movies (no more cable bill).I had an older TV prior to the 73" which didn't have an HDMI port. Getting the new TV forced me to buy this card as I wanted to use HDMI port from the 73". Unfortunately the MOBO on the computer didn't have an HDMI port. This little card did just the trick and works perfectly! Granted I don't use it for any games whatsoever, so take my 5 star rating based on the HDMI and video performance qualities.I have uploaded a pic of the 73" while hooked to my computer surfing the net.*Review update 4/6/2012*The card is still functioning fine, however the fan is VERY loud. I have tried to blow it out with air and it's still noisy. In fact, so noisy that I need to turn up my TV just to drown it out. Going to see if I can exchange it for a new one.

EyeFinity Made Easy. The SAPPHIRE FLEX HD 79503GB OC with Boost!
The SAPPHIRE FLEX HD 7950 3GB OC with Boost simplifies AMD’s multi-monitor Eyefinity solution by allowing 3 X DVI monitors to be connected to the board ‘out of the box’ WITHOUT the requirement for expensive DisplayPort monitors or Active Adapters. SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB with Boost now has the latest GDDR5 memory clocked at 5000MHz effective, and runs with a core clock speed of 860 MHz which with PowerTune Dynamic Boost rises to 925 MHz on the engine.
Most graphics cards based on AMD technology require the third monitor in an Eyefinity set-up to be a DisplayPort monitor, or connected with an active DisplayPort Adapter. The SAPPHIRE FleX family can support three DVI monitors in Eyefinity mode and deliver a true SLS (Single Large Surface) work area without the need for active adapters. The first two monitors are connected to the two DVI ports and the third to an HDMI to DVI cable (supplied) with no extra hardware required.
The SAPPHIRE HD 7950 FleX is now the highest performing card with this feature, allowing gamers to use low-cost DVI monitors for all three screens. Additional monitors can be added to the setup, but must be DisplayPort connected. With its core clock speeds of 860MHz and 1250Mhz (5 Gb/sec effective) for the memory this model is slightly faster than the HD 7950 standard edition and brings easy to configure multi-screen enjoyment to even hard-core gamers.
