Product Description
From the Manufacturer
Radeon HD 7770 Black Edition featuring Double Dissipation
No other graphics card brand on the market matches the phenomenal performance, exceptional quality and unique modern styling of an XFX graphics card. This visually brilliant XFX AMD Radeon 7770 graphics card delivers impressive enhancements for entertainment and gaming. Discover a superior visual experience with AMD's EyeSpeed technology which offers increased speed and third-generation video enhancements for a crisp, vivid HD viewing experience. All backed by the XFX Lifetime warranty with registration.
Ghost Thermal Technology for Cooler Performance
Through rigorous testing and analysis, XFX discovered the optimal thermal design that allows air to pass through the heatsink directly to the PCB and core components. Older enclosed designs often trapped the heat creating a bottle neck at the exhaust, this can be remedied but at the cost of a higher fan speed which creates excess noise. XFX's fan design allows lower fan speeds while allowing the heat to dissipate evenly throughout the card.
Double Dissipation Fan Design
The Double-D dual-fan design--whether over heat-pipes or HydroCell--offers up to 3x more air flow giving you performance that's up to 13dB quieter and 7 degrees C cooler. The fans directly cool the heatsink, components and PCB, preventing overheated components and PCB that can reduce performance.
DirectX 11 Ready
Achieve ultra-realistic 3D gaming with DirectX 11 technology. Enjoy the best of next-generation gaming in amazing realistic 3D visual graphics. From realistic reflections and shadows can block the reflection of light, as they do in real life, to advanced GPU features such as Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing (MSAA), Shader Model 5.0, DirectCompute 11 and OpenGL 4.2 support, multi-threading, and HDR texture compression.
Multi-Monitor Support
AMD EyeFinity Multi-Display lets you use one powerful card to drive up to 6 displays. Enjoy your gaming and work across multiple displays and in eye-popping real Stereo 3D. Monitors can have independent resolutions and display controls, or you can combine multiple displays to behave like a single screen. Mirror screens for presentations, and improve your productivity when working with larger spreadsheets and documents. The Multi-Display will power up to 3 connected screens by itself. Using four screens and up requires a DisplayPort 1.2 Multi Stream hub (not included).
Multi-Stream Audio
Multi-Stream audio intelligently links sound to video so that the audio is redirected to the appropriate source. This means in multi-screen conference calls, for example, you'll hear the person on the left screen coming out only from the left speaker.
Duratec: Professional Hardware Features
GPU Edging
The XFX Black Edition is among the top 1% of GPUs capable of reaching maximum overclock speeds. But unlike factory overclocks and maximum overclocks that only increases wattage to increase clock speeds, XFX's high quality Duratec components allows higher clock speeds while keeping the overall card wattage the same as a standard card by lower overall wattage loss.
IP5X Dust Free
XFX graphics cards use IP5X-rated fans which offer the highest level of protection against dust and other foreign objects that can reduce the performance of fans overtime. To achieve an IP5X rating, ingress of dust must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment, offering complete protection against contact.
XFX Bracket Design
Exclusive XFX Bracket design can lower your cards temperature by up to 20% by increasing airflow by up to 200%. This allows it to achieve better overclocking.
Solid Capacitors
Solid Capacitors are more durable than electrolytic capacitors so they are designed last longer and withstand more heat. Solid capacitors deliver up to 40,000 more hours of operation than electrolytic capacitors. They're designed to withstand up to 105 degrees C, and won't explode, offering a high degree of reliability and safety.
Fan Ramping
XFX fans are designed to use linear fan speed ramping controls so that fan speeds and temperatures are optimized to reduce excess noise.
Lifetime Warranty
This card is protected by a limited lifetime warranty, granting you peace of mind for serious upgrades.

I purchased this video card to upgrade my XFX Radeon HD 5770 that I've had for two years. I admittedly did not do enough research in video cards before purchasing this card. Although this HD 7770 is a good video card, I actually saw a decrease in overall performance compared to my HD 5770. After doing more thorough research, I learned that the HD 7770 is supposed to be an almost direct replacement for the HD 5770. It turns out that the HD 5770 is basically the same design as the HD 6770 and the new HD 7770 is a more energy efficient, cooler-running version of the same basic design. I wish that Radeon's chip numbering system for their video cards was a little more clear, I naively thought that the bigger the number, the better the performance. I was also surprised that ATI Radeon hasn't significantly increased the performance of their video cards in the last two years. Basically, the new models are just that, the models for this year's line-up, and do not represent a general increase in overall performance. This is where I didn't do enough research. But, I know now and, if you read this review, you will know too.Pros:o Good basic design. A very good bargain as an entry level gaming card at this price point.o Runs very coolly and quietly. This card is much more quiet than my HD 5770 and you can hardly hear the fan, even while gaming.o Neat packaging and card design. Looks cool. Came with a metal label you could afix to your computer case for bragging rights.Cons:o Equivalent performance to an HD 5770/6770. It performed slightly better in 3D graphics and slightly worse in 2D graphics benchmarks. (This is a con because a HD 6770 can be purchased for a whole lot less money.)o I saw many video glitches when playing games. I don't know if it was a faulty card, faulty driver or inherent product flaw. The lack of a tangible performance increase over my HD 5770 led me to have no desire to troubleshoot what the issue was. This cost the review a star.Because there was no overall increase in performance with this card over my HD 5770 and because of the video glitches I noticed while playing games, I decided to return this card and shop for something better. At the moment, the HD 6850 cards would give me a slight 25%-50% increase in performance over my HD 5770 for ~$175 and a HD 7850 would give me about a 100% increase for ~$275. (There are a freakin' lot of Radeon video cards out there and figuring out which is the best price/performance is not an easy task.)If I were to purchase my very first gaming video card today and I were on a very strict budget, I would purchase this HD 7770. It's a good entry-level gaming card for the budget conscious. I would have rated it higher if it were not for the video glitches that I saw. Hopefully, that's just a driver issue and Radeon will fix it, turning this into an excellent video card for the price. But, as I noted in my review, for just a little bit more money, you could get a slightly better HD 6870 card, so you should consider that option if you have the money.Update (5/16/2012)I ended up purchasing a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 video card. It has twice the performance of this card at only ~$30 more. SAPPHIRE AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE Graphics Card. Tom's Hardware and Legit Reviews websites both had good things to say about this card. I expect that the HD 6870 will be noisier and less energy efficient than the HD 7770 because it is a generation older design.Update (6/22/2012)Just a follow-up: The Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 is wonderful. No problems with performance and the fan noise is negligible.
