Hey guys and gals. First I'm going to give Pros and Cons of both AMD/ATI and Nvidia graphics cards.Nvidia graphics cards enable you to have...1.) CUDA2.) Nvidia Physx (Former known as AGEIA Physx, before purchased by Nvidia)3.) Nvidia PureVideo4.) SLI/SLI Profiles (Most compatible Multi-GPU solution out there due to several reasons I'll mention later)5.) Unified Drivers for Geforce 6000 series through GTX 600 series. (Nvidia honestly does deliver the most stable and compatible driver solution in the graphics market, again due to reasons I'll mention later)6.) Boost clocks on the GTX 6 series.7.) TWIMTBP program (The Way It's Meant To Be Played) Nvidia works close with many developers to make games learn mostly towards Nvidia.AMD/ATI graphics card enable you to have....1.) Video/Internet Video and 2D clarity (AMD/ATI really does shine in this category, The HD 7 series especially puts out one HECK of a picture!)2.) Usually a low cost solution to CPU/GPU, and can perform perfectly fine in games for your everyday user.3.) Availability (Especially lately with the new generation of cards from Nvidia and AMD/ATI, AMD/ATI has the upper hand in availability of their new series) This is due to low fab yields for Nvidia, which is slowly changing.4.) AMD App Acceleration5.) Crossfire with APU's ( Yes if you have an AMD/ATI card within similar specs and series of the graphics core of your APU you can crossfire them together. )6.) Very compatible with AMD's own motherboard chipset platforms.7.) I'll get back to you on this...I haven't found a 7th yet.Just keep in mind these are my personal findings after using both Nvidia and AMD/ATI cards, especially newer series such as GTX 680 and HD 7970.Now onwards as to why I'm not using my HD 7970 in Crossfire anymore...Drivers, yes you heard that right. AMD is very lacking in their drivers right now and have had to drop monthy support for their HD 4000 series and under. They have pushed those series of cards to a quarterly (hotfix) category. So AMD feels that they have squeezed most of what they could out of their HD 4 series and under power wise. Their other main reason for doing this, is to focus on their new cards namely the HD 7000 series. Their cards have been out for going on half a year now...or heck even half a year by now, but they have hardly any driver support other than basic functions for their cards. No real compatibility tweaks and improvements have been implemented for many games. Crossfire works, and works great when it does, but only in a handful of games. Battlefield 3 runs FANTASTIC on their latest Catalyst 12.4 WHQL driver package. The Image Quality was greatly boosted for this title as well while using the HD 7000 series of GPU's. Most textures in BF3 that appeared "flat" with no real shape, seemed to have more of a 3D surface or "bump mapping" look to them. The only problem with this is while it runs BF3 like a dream, all other games suffered compatibility problems, especially with crossfire. One example is a popular game known as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. With crossfire enabled on this set of drivers, it would BSOD only 2 minutes into the game after loading from the title screen. It seems AMD's problem lately is while they fix one game up, they break another. As I stated before, this is another reason why AMD has dropped the HD 4 series and under to a quarterly update. AMD just doesn't have the driver team like Nvidia has, and they do not have the time and resources to support all of their cards properly. This is a sad development, as the HD 7970 especially has SO much potential is mind boggling. A slight OC to 1100mhz core and it can almost and sometimes outdo the GTX 680 depending on the game. Sadly this is rare when it happens for all reasons mentioned above. Their current drivers are a, (I fixed this game, but broke another in the process).AMD really needs to straighten out their driver mess and fast. Show the world what your HD 7000 series of cards can really do. They are capable of SO MUCH more, but your software is lacking to do so. This my friends is why I sold one of my HD 7970's, left Crossfire and kept one for the future drivers AMD hopefully offers. With the money gained from one of my HD 7970's, The purchase of this GTX 680 was made.I'll be going back to Nvidia for a while, mainly because of the "it just works" mind set Nvidia brings to the table. This card will do more than justice for my reasoning. It's beyond feature rich, and it's blazing fast. It's the current "king of the hill" so to speak of single GPU cards when it comes to speed. This also being a custom cooler, it provides on average of 5-10c cooler operating temps even when gaming.Boost clock is a great option as well. No need to constantly draw more power to your card when you OC, or even if you don't since Nvidia can now decide if your game or application needs a bit more horsepower by automatically bumping your clocks up, and doing so safely.The only downsides of this product that I can see are the following...1.) It takes 3 slots in your case due to the custom cooler (It works so well it makes it worth it though!)2.) It's big...very big, make sure your case can fit this thing in it.Well that's about it really for the downsides. All in all I can't wait to see AMD do something about their drivers. So much potential in the card, but nothing to back it up. Right now Nvidia while of course not totally bug free, has the most compatible driver bar none. It's unified with cards all the way back to the Nvidia 6000 series cards released through April 2004 - 2005. With all this being said, I gave AMD/ATI another shot, and ended up rather disappointed. All of this due to the reasons mentioned in this review. While I will keep one of my HD 7970's to possibly give it another go in the future, I doubt it will be soon.Good luck to all in your choice that you make between Nvidia and AMD/ATI.
