All I wanted was to be able to run dual monitors on my PC. I've installed and configured plenty of cards in my day, but none have given me the grief this thing gave me. First and foremost, support is nonexistent. The CD that ships with the card sends you to their Web site, yet the back of the box tells you to go to the Visiontek site. The former site boasts one set of drivers akin to "this should fix the freezing problem, but it's from a third party and we don't support it". The former site offers no way of communicating through email, phone calls only and you can only guess the "support" I encountered....forever on hold, rather condescending tech who, in the end, told me "you need a new PC". The latter site only offered the driver itself - fortunately, it installed, but no support with it, no way to tweak settings other than through standard Windows methods.I gave up on installing the Catalyst program - supposed to help one manage drivers and the like......loaded the only viable driver from the Visiontek site (since the CD repeatedly gave me the error "failed to install" as did the site it sent me to (ATI's site) - things worked, at first, for about 30 minutes...then the screen started freezing - no pattern, just freezing. Rebooting and the settings would be lost, back to a single monitor...then rebooting and tada, three monitors and no way of convincing the system there were only two monitors - flat out wouldn't recognize monitor 2, only 1 and 3...and there was no third and no way to fake it into believe it was really 2. I ran every troubleshooting task there was from manually clearing temp files to adjusting the system set-up to running chkdsk to tinkering with msconfig to verifying drivers to ensuring there were no competing bits of hardware and so on...and it just got worse from there. BSOD...yes, the dreaded BSOD...had the PC for several years, never a BSOD, not once...and now the PC won't boot without BSOD (am using the now beloved notebook for now). Hours upon hours of trying to salvage my PC without having to format and start all over (back up, what? me?), thus far, no success. Removing the video card, any hint it existed and so on made no difference.As for the performance, I felt the card ran slower than the dedicated card that came with the system, course, without the Catalyst program there wasn't much I could tweak anyway and the thing probably never worked properly from the start. I was initially told I couldn't return the card because I couldn't prove it was defective and "not compatible with my system" isn't a returnable option...we shall see.In the end, I opted for the Kensington dual display adapter, 1/2 the cost, plugged in, no problems......but I've got two 25" displays working just fine...no driver problems, no tweaking, no BSOD...course it's running off the notebook...here's hoping it has a chance to run on the Dell :)System: Dell Dimension E310, P4, 3RAM, Windows XP(3), no other hardware changes.Yeah, I know, someone will post "I had no problems" and to you I tip my hat and suggest you buy a single lottery ticket because you're one lucky dog in my book.
