The IOGEAR USB 3.0 ExpressCard is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 standards and will fit into any available ExpressCard slot. Some examples of USB 2.0 Hi-Speed vs. USB 3.0 SuperSpeed are:Transfer of 25GB HD movie: Using USB 2.0 it would take13.9 minutes to download, with USB 3.0 only 70 seconds Transfer of 16GB from a flash drive: Using USB 2.0 it would take 8.9 minutes, with USB 3.0 only 53 seconds Backup 1TB of data: Using USB 2.0 it would take 9.3 hours, using the new USB 3.0 only 47 minutes

For some reason, it is very difficult to tell if the USB 3.0 cards you are about to purchase really have an external power supply included. THIS PRODUCT DOES. I was finally able to use devices such as my Western Digital Passport drive.Price point is good (especially compared to some that don't have external power), and it seems to use the same chipset most of the others do. No problems with it so far. Not 100% sure I am getting best speed out if it, but I am getting far better speed than I see through the built-in USB 2 ports on my Sony VAIO. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.
