The GTX 580 PNY graphics card is a fantastic card. Still the best single graphics card on the market.I was impressed by the power and quality of the graphics that this item produced. However, my problems arose right out of the box. For such an expensive item, you would likely expect all of the possibly needed peripheral connectors to be included. WRONG! There is no dual 6 pin-to-8 pin converter. It comes with a dual molar (4 pin)-to-6 pin connector, but how many high computers will rely on molar connectors to power a GTX 580?I have an XPS 720 with a Intel Core 2 Quad processor and a 1 KW power supply. It is a 3 year old, 3,000 dollar gaming PC. Not top-of-the-line by todays standards but still a powerhouse PC made specifically for gaming at its extremes. Despite this, I didn't have the neccessary connections. I needed to wait nearly a week to recieve the new cord ordered from Amazon. When it finally arrived I was set and ready to play. It was simple to transition from one Graphics card (8800 GTX Ultra) to this GTX 580 - or so it seemed. During this transition, a file in the drivers became corrupted. The file's name is nv4_mini.sysThis file is (to my understanding) responsible for properly updating and running the graphics cards on your computer. Deleting and reinstalling drivers did not help at all. In fact, the problems became more persistant. The first two weeks of use were fantastic. I had little or no problems and my games (even Crysis) ran on high settings with no noise, major heat release, or freezing which would occur when I pushed my 8800 GTX Ultra to the limit. But then, suddenly, memory leaks and texture issues started appear in my games. Eventually, the graphics card could not even operate at the same efficiency or power level as my old graphics card. Soon after this began happening, my computer would crash when attempting to play ANY video games. The blue screen error would single nv4_mini.sys as the corrupted cultprit.Whether it was the main issue or not, the graphics card no longer operated properly. I exchanged it for another. In the meantime, I went back to my previous graphics card. This one could run everything just fine, but the crashes would still occur sparingly. Finally, after 3 weeks of trying this graphics card, I was forced to reinstall my operating system and wipe my hard drive. While this card is an incredible piece of technology... insanely quiet when compared to an 8800 GTX Ultra... not generating nearly as much heat as the aforementioned... and just plain powerful - keep in mind that the PNY instance does not come with the *likely* neccessary dual 6 pin/8pin converter and be careful in transitioning from one graphics card to another.Look online for additional directions and be thorough during the transition, lest you run into the same problems as I.Overall, the card is a must buy.I reduced the rating from 5 to four stars for the troubles I experienced above. While I doubt everyone will run into these problems, and they may not have been helped by my own error, I still was not perfectly happy with my experience.I hope this helps. Enjoy your GTX 580!
