i have a budget pc and wanted the ability to play games from time to time. im not a gamer, but when i received halo 2 for christmas, i was easily excited. it didnt (to my unpleasant surprise) work out too well, though. my system need a little help first..what came with my system is an invidia graphics card [geforce 7050]; but it is an integrated graphics card and utilizes system memory--and it isnt powerful enough to handle anything more than youtube videos and home movies, and even dvd movies would run slow and have glitches. when i finally got halo 2 to work on my windows 7 pc, it was shaky, jerky. in constant slow motion.i found this card, the galaxy geforce gt 520, at a local store for $54.99. i liked the specs, i like that it clocks higher (my system runs ddr2 and this card runs ddr3), and the fact that it retains its own 1gb of ram is very nice. i also like the 3 year warranty.but. my system first needed some help. the last thing i want is a crashing system, because my wife and i both use the system. so i had to improve on the 250w power supply. the requirements recommend a 300w at least. i pulled the power supply from my system and took it with me when i went for the new graphics card. i settled on a 400w power suppy. i was looking for anything 400w or more, and the one i went with is a 400w atx dynex because it sported a bigger fan than the 420w. a bigger fan is never a bad thing.i also purchased a small 80mm led case fan by rockfish for $11 and installed that on the back-inside of my case and easily plugged it into the motherboard. i knew that keeping that system with the new card cooled down is very important. if it overheats, the fan on the card gets loud and the graphics become unsteady. that is also why i got the much bigger power supply. the system runs a little quieter than before.. i think a lot of the time, with facebook apps and youtube videos and whatnot, that the system was overused. it is quiet even during heavy game play (i picked up street fighter 4 and that game is fast, and even during heavy battle, the system is quiet--quieter than before the new graphics card and additional case fan.)(also, the 80mm led fan features a blue light that makes the side of my machine glow a brilliant blue at night :)so, this is a good card for a budget pc for the causal gamer. and remember to consider a larger power supply and maybe even an extra case fan. that tags approx. a hundred $ price, but will save you headaches.other notes: not only do videos work without buffering, they also sound better. my budget system features 7.1 audio surround sound that is chip integrated into the motherboard. and for some reason, now, perhaps when the graphics card drivers upgraded the sound system upgraded like that too, and the system sound has doubled since installing this card's drivers.other notes: drivers. i never had to install a disc, windows 7 did everything. the drivers were about 150mb and the entire process took ten to fifteen minutes. and it was automated through windows 7. (im running the 64bit premium home version.)if you have any questions on setup, feel free to hit me up. i learned how to install everything via youtube videos. im an average home i.t. guy.
