After getting burned by AMD when it came to Driver / Crossfire support on most of the major game releases last season I knew it was time to retire the 3x 6950s that I had when I saw the reviews for the 670. I had never tried Galaxy but I came to Amazon at the right time and they had cards in stock. I grabbed a pair and waited for their grand arrival.Once they arrived I had discovered that the cards do not come with a SLI cable. I guess in the back of my head I knew this but didn't really think about it until they were here. I don't know why but for whatever reason the SLI cable/bridge comes with your motherboard. I had to then dig around in my piles of unused cables and parts from over the years and find a SLI cable/bridge. Just something to keep in mind if you are going that route. You do get the usual complement of molex power and VGA adapters, driver disc, and documentation in the box. You will need a 6-pin and an 8-pin PCIe power cable for each card in your system.In order to get the extended warranty you have to register the cards on the Galaxy site by creating an account on the support site and submitting a trouble ticket requesting registration. It wasn't what I would call really easy and I had to wait for what I think was over a week before I got a response. Even then I had asked to register two cards but the response I got left some doubt in my mind that they registered two cards for me instead of one. This makes me worry about what will happen if I ever really need warranty support. XFX and EVGA are much nicer when it comes to registering and looking at your data.Looking at the cards themselves they are built on a larger custom blue PCB with a large 4 pipe heat sink installed. Over the heat sink they have a fan shroud mounted with 2 x fans on plastic frame covered by an outer aluminum shell. It seems rigid enough and it leaves a large enough gap between the cards in SLI to allow nice airflow. It makes the gap between my old 6950 cards look like a tiny crack. The end of the shroud near the power connectors has a white LED under the lettering that pulses on and off. It is covered with black tape on the backside to keep the light from bleeding badly. Really all I can see when the cards are installed is the bleed from under the tape. The lettering faces down so you don't really see it anyway. It would have probably looked cooler with lit fans because the light would have bled out from under the shroud. Overall not a bad looking card that has a nice cooler with room to breathe when paired with another card.I'm almost a month in and enjoying the cards. I ran into the problem with the PC not powering off when you shutdown Windows but that was fixed in the latest driver update. I have been playing Diablo 3 and Max Payne 3 with no problems. In Max Payne I have everything maxed out using FXAA and no MSAA and things seem pretty smooth. The game says that with those settings I am exceeding the available memory but I have only noticed a scene or two where it stutters a little. I play at 2560x1600 on a HP ZR30w monitor and I also have a HP LP2475w as a secondary display. I have the primary connected with a Display Port cable and the secondary connected with DVI. I have noticed that once in a while (once a week or so) on wake up the main screen will scramble. At this point I am not sure if it is the card, driver, cable (got a new Accell cable), or monitor. I just have to pop the cable out of the monitor and plug it back in and it will work without a reboot or anything. I never had that exact thing happen with my ATI cards, not that they didn't have their own detection / wake up quirks though. Overall I am happy with the heat, power consumption, noise, and performance of these cards. Things also feel smoother while gaming in SLI when compared to my old Crossfire setup.I dropped a star because of the registration process, upside down lettering on the shroud, the barely seen pulsing LED, and possible DP handshake issue. All hopefully minor problems in the long run but they add up and are annoying nonetheless.So here I am back on team green until red can win me back. So far I am pretty happy with this card and think you will be too.
