I bought this card for a small form factor PC (actually bought one new and one used). The reason I went with these cards was a combination of performance and the design. MSI went with a very solid design with quality parts. I have only had time to do preliminary tests by running games. The real use will be for digital artwork and 3D work. Note 1: In a small form factor PCX they can run hot under full load - over the recommended 80 degrees listed on the box. I have a small form factor HP Compaq, and a Lenovo (both of lease business refurbs). Note 2: The cards do work with the stock power supplies but it is not the best idea. I upgraded to the best budget 80% efficient 400 watt (420 and 450 respectively) power supplies I could. One is a small form factor PSU. I got this one first but was too lazy to rig up a custom internal bracket for mounting, so I hooked it up outside the box. Small form factor PSU units are much more expensive then regular sized so the second PSU is regular sized and is obviously rigged outside the box (Do not worry about getting a stronger PSU then this. These units are not being taxed by the vid cards or the extra ram I have put in these boxes). This cooled the small form factor boxes in two ways. The original PSUs were running heavy and hot do to the video cards and extra ram. This aggravated the internal box temperatures. With the new PSUs externally hooked up the boxes - lower temperatures. This allowed the cards to run slightly under average for average use, but when put to full use, they still went slightly above the max standard running temp of 80 degrees. The Lenovo box was worse then the HP as it is even smaller (as tall but a good 2.5 inches less in width) and places the card right next to the hard drive. To deal with this I mounted a mini tri fan set up (StarTech makes them - I had some from and older computer) onto the back of the box (by removing the fans from the drive bay bezel and using some bolts from the hard ware store to bolt them to the vented mesh on the back, by the hard drive and video card - pulling air out of the box). I am a fanatic about cooling so I still crack the lid (The Lenovo box is hinged) when putting the vid card under stress (until I get a chance to shoe horn a small fan in the front of the case - in front of the video card to push more air at the video card). The HP box was easier to deal with. I added a 60 millimeter CPU fan onto the back side of the aluminum heat riser of the cpu. There is a case fan right in front of the cpu and with this one on the other side pulling air it rushes enough air through to drop the cpu operating temperature by 3 degrees and also helps the video card which is behind and off to the side of the cpu. Net affect in both cases: I am running the cards 10 degrees or more below standard operating temps. Eventually I might just pick up a couple of cheap mid sized towers (wish I had the resources to design my own). Had the internal air flow deflectors been designed to send air to the PCIx16 slot area, things would have been much simpler - but HP and Lenovo obviously does not expect people to upgrade these boxes in such a way.So if you are upgrading small form factor boxes - get some software to check you video card temp! MSI includes their excellent Afterburner software. I use it to under clock my cards for normal use - which saves of some power usage. I also set the fan speed to run faster then stock under heavier loads (in a larger box that doesn't have the cooling issues - I would not do this). It is great software - easy to use.In conclusion: I would say these cards are excellent deals. The hardware does what a limited small form factor card can do (statistically better then other cards in this price range, and they should be as reliable as you can get) and the included software adds versatility and the ability to address cooling issues.If I remember to - I will update down the road.
